Instantly recognisable the weeping Kilmarnock willow is a popular spring plant, with its graceful weeping stems and fluffy catkins.
It is actually a combination of two willows, The top is the Kilmarnock willow which is naturally weeping or spreading. This is grafted on top of a long straight willow stem, the rootstock, usually salix alba or fragilis. The height of your weeping willow is determined by the size of the rootstock, if it is 2 metres high when you buy it, then that is its final size, the top will grow slightly higher and wider. The weeping branches can hang right down to the ground.
