Who we are

“At Sproot, we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our visitors to our web site. In particular, we want you to know that Sproot is not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes.

It just wouldn’t feel right to do that sort of thing.

But just in case you don’t believe us, and you have some spare time, our Privacy Policy below, contains lots of detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure. Pull up a chair and read on.”

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Affiliates and merchant links

We use this button to identify pages with paid links

Any content with a coloured link or text are affiliated, which means when you get a product via this link or banner a contribution may be made to Sproot.co.uk, which helps it stay free to use. You shouldn’t notice any difference; the links don’t impact the products at all and the editorial line (the things we write) isn’t changed due to them. If it isn’t possible to get an affiliate link for the best product, it’s still included in the same way.
In addition, when you click some links to other websites from ours, those sites may use cookies. We may have a button or banner linking to another site, a cookie could be placed by the 3rd party who provide that link. This is normal with links to recommended suppliers.

How to stop these cookies

To stop cookies being stored on your computer in future, you’ll need to alter the settings of your internet browser. You can find instructions on how to do this either through click ‘Help’ in the menu bar, or following these browser-by-browser instructions from AboutCookies.org.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

If you have any queries relating to our use of your personal data or any other related data protection questions, please contact our Data Protection Office at admin@sproot.co.uk
