Clear advice. No jargon. No gimmicks.

Gardening is often made much more complicated than it needs to be. At Sproot, we share straightforward, beginner-friendly advice based on 40 years of real growing experience. We’re here to help you understand what works, why it works, and how to avoid the “miracle” products that promise the world but usually disappoint.
Whether you have a sprawling garden, a tiny balcony, or just a sunny windowsill, you can grow with confidence. You don’t need expensive tools or expert knowledge to get started.

The Sproot Promise: If something sounds confusing, we haven’t explained it well enough. Like any good gardener, we’re always learning, too.

“Grandad, your plants look happy!”

That’s what my three-year-old grandson said while “helping” me in the greenhouse.

Sometimes it takes young eyes to remind you to stop and really look. To him, “happy” probably meant colourful, but it reminded me that growing plants is one of the most rewarding things you can do. My goal with this blog is to encourage you to take that first, small step.

Trust Your Instincts

Over four decades of growing and selling plants has taught me one thing: there is no single “right” or “wrong” way to garden. Plants are incredibly resilient; they want to grow. All we have to do is use a little common sense and learn to trust our instincts.

Navigating the Modern Garden

The way we grow and sell plants has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. Old reference books are often out of date, and the internet is full of information—some of it brilliant, some of it plain “bonkers.”
With our inside knowledge of the industry, we’ll help you pick through the noise and make the best choices for your space and your budget.

Gardening is easy. Let’s get started.
