Time to turn up the heating

Time to turn the heating up and start potting.

Our first delivery of summer plants have arrived. If you remember we warmed up the compost for a few days ready for the delivery.
We are lucky our plants are delivered on trolleys in a heated lorry, they have been kept at a constant temperature, since they were loaded 2-3 days ago.
However they have been in the dark so the first thing we do is unload them into the sunlight, so they can start to replenish the carbohydrate they lost in the dark.
Getting them potted as soon as possible is vital, this reduces the humidity and allows the roots to start growing.
Careful watering is needed, we make sure the compost is moist before potting and only water when the sun is shining.
On dull days we allow the temperature to fall and on sunny days it is allowed to rise, this reduces our heating without affecting the growth of the plants. In dull weather your plant is not growing so you just end up wasting heat.
Now is a good time to monitor your temperatures a digital thermometer is your best friend.
