Spider Plant “Chlorophytum”

Spider plants are easy to grow
They are very adaptable
Inexpensive to buy

Habit
Low growing, forming a crown of upright leaves, they also throw lots of runners with baby plants.

If you leave the stems with the runners on, the plant will cascade over.
You can use the runners to create more plants
They have thick fleshy roots, that store water, they are strong enough to break a plant pot. Re-pot them when the pot is full of roots.

Temperature
They are very adaptable, happy at room temperature but will also survive lower temperatures. We have some hanging baskets that overwinter in a frost-free cool greenhouse.
They can also be used as summer bedding or patio plants.

Watering
In warm conditions water more often and mist the leaves, in a cool room you can allow the compost to dry out before watering.
Positon
Happy in the sun or light shade, in deep shade, the leaves will stretch and become limp.

Very tough, happy in the sun or part shade and fun to grow.

Very few bad habits, can grow too big, if straggly they need more light.
