The humble cabbages flamboyant cousin, usually sold in full glorious technicolour, ranging from deep purple to deep pink or pure white. They seem to glow especially in dull weather. The foliage can be flat or curly, there is also a cutflower type with tall stems.
You could grow your own, buy some seeds and sow them mid July for large plants,or late august for small plants, they will germinate and grow quickly. Grow them outside as cool as possible, the colour won’t develop without some cool nights it will intensify the colder it gets. They are easy to grow but greenfly and cabbage white butterflies will come visiting you will need to take some action or they will soon disappear.

As an outdoor plant they don’t enjoy being in a warm store and stretch quickly. Buy as soon as they come in. Avoid stretched or yellow-leaved plants, or visit a garden centre or nursery where they will be displayed outside. Very attractive to look at unfortunately greenfly and caterpillars also like them
